More disinformation from a clueless poster. Picnic Island has a dog beach that is often closed for bacteria. No one in Tampa considers it a real beach. Not very swimmable.

Well, I mean, the city of Tampa considers it a beach.

And, by "often closed," you mean it was closed once well over a year ago at the exact same time Davis Island Beach was closed?

TAMPA might just be the same stress level or more than DC. IT was ranked the number one most stressful area in the US for a reason. The area is poorly urban planned, its a low paying transient area which means more poor neighboorhoods with the same crime levels as urban Dc. The Bridge system in Tampa is a nightmare so instead of sitting on the DC Beltway in Traffic you will sit on a 12 mile bridge for hours. Tampa of course is cheaper than Virginia/dc with no state or local income tax. But with Flood insurance, car insurance and increasing rentals you will pay dearly. The beach areas such as Clearwater are not made for retirees anymore. They are over crowded tourist traps where traffic bottlenecks Locals have to play tourist prices and young people act stupid.

Hmm, right .. expert opinion. When on the bridges in Tampa Bay, you're looking at a beautiful bay/bodies of water. What are you looking at on the beltway in DC? Everybody else's bumper? When I drove in DC, that was in the 90s, it felt much worse, Beltway or I-95. I remember getting stuck on I-95 for 5 hrs due to an accident. I cannot imagine what it's like now. I've read traffic is pretty much a whole day, even weekend issue there. Not so in Tampa Bay.

As for low paying transients, are you one of them? Not every one is in that category..

Where is this 12 mile bridge? And traffic simply isn't that bad. First thing in the morning, going from I-4 to 275S, there's a backup. But it moves and it will take less than 5 minutes and then you'll be back to pretty free flowing traffic. Other than that, unless there's an accident, traffic is typical of any city during rush hours.

I suspect they are referring to the Sunshine Skyway, the bridge across the opening of Tampa Bay.

This person is constantly trolling this forum claiming all sorts of outrageous things like this. None of it is founded in fact. Pay them no heed, they're leaving to be miserable in Kentucky soon.

Wait for school to start and it will be so different.
While leaving the office today I checked the traffic and there were a lot of red on the map. Looked like half of Tampa was stop-n-going

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like Clearwater (or other places that side of the Bay) is doable, with day to day traffic risks, but generally the commute would be in the neighborhood of an hour.

To clarify, really the most important thing is the neighborhood feel. I really don't want to have to get in the car and drive every single place. And, even if I don't know them, I like to see people wandering about rather than seeing suburban lawn and house mile after mile. And an aside for the beach scoffers - I lived by a beach for about 5 years. I went at some point nearly every single day. I might not be a sun-worshipper, but mornings and evenings are just pleasant there.

Someone asked if I was a "low-paying transient". I don't know what that means, but I don't intend to move to Tamp with a 3 year and out attitude. As for the low-paying"? No one wants to pay more than they need to! But I am not considering a position that is low paid if that is what you're referring to and while I cannot say the the cost of housing is no object, I have yet to see anything that I would want that would be a stretch to afford.

Sounds like South Tampa is a viable choice.
