I listen to talk radio during the day. Every time they give a traffic update, they mention that I-275 north bound from the bridge to I-4 is a parking lot. What are the conditions on that stretch of road that causes people to drive so slow and tap the brakes [with no vehicle crashes reported]?

Just normal traffic, plus the Westshore business district and downtown.

The same amount of traffic is coming from St Pete and doing 70 mph. So what makes people hit the brakes when they get over the bridge?

Like I said, the Westshore business district and downtown. So there's a lot more traffic once you hit Tampa. Every on-ramp is a flood of cars getting on I-275 and that gums it all up, especially on rush hour. The typical pattern is from 4:30 P. M. to about 6:30 P. M. on weekdays, all the office workers are (trying to) getting on the highways to head north to go home. Why north? Because about 10-15 years ago, it was a known thing that houses were cheaper in Pasco County. Now here we are 12 years later after everyone bought houses up there, and there's a big northbound exodus everyday.

It slows until you get past dale mabry and speeds right back up. They really needed the 4th lane from the bridge all the way through.

Its 4 lanes then merges into 2 , that might have something to do with it
