Planning to relocate to Tampa area before the end of the year. Are there any suburbs with a commute of 40 minutes or less to downtown between 7am and 6pm? This will help me choose what burbs to focus on when I meet with my realtor in 2 weeks. I'm looking for a house in the 350k to 475k range if that helps. No kids just me, my boyfriend, and best friend. Also would be interested in knowing if living in Tampa not the burbs is recommended. If so what neighborhoods are recommended? Thanks in advance everyone!

Brandon (puke)
Westchase (nice, but overpriced and kind of generic)
Carrollwood (older but nice in parts. kind of a mess in and around Dale Mabry.)

It kind of depends on your age. If you're under 40, I would absolutely recommend living downtown or maybe even St. Pete. The 3 areas I mentioned are family oriented, and a bit on the dull side. Brandon is just a concrete mess of generic suburbia mixed with a splash of low-rent people.

Getting to down town during rush hour from anywhere but downtown in 40 minutes is extremely difficult throw the occasional accident in there forget about.

From West Brandon, I fly through downtown at least three times a week during rush hour in 15-20 minutes max.
Saves me having to go through Malfunction Junction, then I head up Ashley to get on the interstate to go over to pinellas.

Most days there is a wreck on the stein. It was even worse in the 80's.

What I find weird is the bumper to bumper traffic heading to Tampa in the morning rush from Pinellas. Then the bumper to bumper heading to Tampa during rush hour in the late afternoon.

You would have liked it in the mid 80's with the old bridge as i used it every week when i went fishing offshore. Just two lanes each way and if there was a wreck you were done. The traffic here was bad in the 60's so it has never changed really.
