My girlfriend and I are moving to Florida in the next 1-2 months. I have been to Orlando, and thats it. We expect to make a trip down there in a few weeks, but we need to find an area close to colleges, safe, and preferably close to the beach. I heard the Clearwater and Largo are decent places, but again, I have never been there. So any advice would be awesome, Thanks.

What college? There are several in Tampa/ St. Pete area.. Are you looking for apt or house? How much in rent?

Any other specific thing you have to have?

We're not sure about what school to attend. Im a video production/media design major and she's in nursing. We were just going to attend a CC for a year or two and then transfer to a four year. As for housing, we're going to rent and our budget is around $800/ month. Im transferring with FedEx, so being close to the airport would also be a plus. Thanks.

You may want to check out St. Pete and South Tampa. Both of these are close to Community College and close to the airport. I generally find that younger people think they want to live at the beach until they move there and have trouble meeting people. Both downtown St. Pete and South Tampa are great areas. Here is a neighborhood guide from Creative Loafing that might be helpful

I would suggest S. Tampa or Carrollwood area. Both are close to HCC and they offer a nursing program, although Carrollwood is not near the beach. The Cove in S. Tampa is on the bay with lots of young profs. although the apts are older.
Check out Davis Island, it is on the bay and Tampa General is there. IIRC that is where the nursing students do some work.

With the price of gas, I wouldn't recommend either Largo or Clearwater, unless you are going to school in that area.

Check out some apts and then ask here.

Awesome, thanks. Do you have any apartment recommendations that are within those areas? I have been looking at apartmentratings.com to find a good apartment, with no luck. Ive heard a lot of those reviews are written by the managers, so they're kind of hard to believe. Any info on apts would be sweet. Thanks again.

33606 is Davis Island.. Most autos are older some have been remodeled.. It is an island with a walkable area to some restaurants. Lots of medical ppl live there. There isn't a bad area on Davis Island

The Cove is right on Tampa Bay. One pool is next to the bay, has a small beach with a small fishing pier. We use to go watch sunsets almost every night when we lived there. Most weekends we spent at the pool or sailing our Hobie Cat. Dolphins playing in the bay are always fun to watch. Walking distance to a few restaurants. We lived there at one time and in case you can't tell we liked it. Made some life long friends.

Post and Camden communities do a good job in the South Tampa area, also look at the privately owned condos and townhomes thru craigslist.com and tbo.com as well for those areas.
