Hi Guys. Just wondering if you can make a decent living in the Tampa area in the service industry. We are currently living in Vegas where we make a great living in the industry (about 160K a year cash). Dont want to raise a daughter in Vegas though. Would really love to hear from someone in the gaming industry most. We both work in local gaming bars here in Vegas where the locals really know how to tip well. Not unusual for 3 or 4 locals to throw a $100 tip on the bar. A typical busy Friday or Saturday night is usually a $700 night. Now I know that wont be the case in the Tampa area but can you make 50-60K a year down there? Any input would be great.

I am not sure there is a gaming industry in Tampa. Florida is not Nevada.

Yes, I think that I might have heard of the Hard Rock, once. Thank you. Still, as someone else posted after me, Tampa is not Vegas and Florida is not Nevada.

In this economy, I would say it would be rough. If you are making that kind of money out there, I think that would be hard to leave. I myself am not a bartender or server, however I have had many friends/relatives in the past who did this for a living. There was a time when one could make a real good living in Tampa at the right place. I don't think you can even come close now, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone from the Hard rock can weigh in, because that is probably your best bet if you want to relocate here.

I have many friends in the service industry(I used to be a GM at a few hotels in Tampa), and I will tell you it is from one extrmem to another totally depending on where you work. High end restaurant bartenders/servers can make upwards of 60k, Bell men at full service hotels can make up to 60k, during Super Bowl, I knew some to bring in 400-500/night. At high end night clubs, servers and bartenders can easily bring in close to 300/night or close to $1000 for a busy Thurs thru Sat nights.

I work at a neighborhood restaurant in South Tampa. The people tend to be weak tippers usually.
