based on current NOAA projections, it looks like hurricane ike is coming straight for us, albeit THROUGH the state of florida. surely it would weaken on such a path, but any chance that when it reaches the other side it could strengthen over the bay area?

When it comes to hurricanes and the Bay area I find it hard to believe, we dodge pretty much all here. We had a couple of TS back in 2004, but nothing that wasn't easy to recover from.

You did very well luck out on Charley. He came up 17 instead and hit us square on and did a lot of damage and it took months for cleanup. Thanks for sharing. Now as far as Ike goes if he crosses as much of the state as it looks like I have no worries. It's just a hurricane day off to enjoy the music of the howling winds. There will be some damage but not like those who greet him when he comes ashore will see. If he jumps across into the gulf and heads north all bets are off. The bay area may get a turn with cleanup. Let's hope not.

edit: this just in: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...?5day#contents

Looks like all bets are off for the bay area. BTW there is an Ike thread in the hurricane forum.

I knew it! lol. See, we don't get hurricane days here, or TS days. For some reason most storms steer clear of the Bay area. They must not like us, lol. Not that we really want them here to begin with...

Do you realize that Fay meandered all over Florida EXCEPT the Tampa area(first to the South then to the North)!!?? Crazy, like we had a sheild protecting us or something.

I know, we must have a barrier protecting us! lol. All I got out of fay was a half of a day off. A little bit of rain would've been nice!

We went over 40 years between anything that resemble a real hurricane and then not that many miles east of you we had 3 in six weeks. You never know when the wolf will be real. Will it be Ike?? One more hour and we shall have yet another update..

looks like now the latest projection is showing ike curving around the keys and not touching florida before coming up the gulf coast side...

...it could get interesting depending on whether this projection is correct, and whether ike heads straight northwest after turning the corner around the bottom of florida or curves into the mainland (ie, us).
