St. Rd 54 going onto I-75 isn't that great of an idea right now since they are working on I-75 which isgoing to be widened.

But from Wesley Chapel it is only 15 min. to USF...I know not much beach but still how many times will you spent on the beach and you can always drive there and it is faster from pasco going to USF to the beach than from Polk County...maybe something to consider...

I was thinking to take SR-54 to Suncoast Parkway, Dale Mabry, or maybe Livingston. Then head East on Bearss, Fowler, or Fletcher. Taking I-75 even without construction I don't think is the quickest route.

So sorry that I'm not saying what you want to hear.

I grew up in Lakeland so I can certainly understand the need to get away from there. I have family there but I don't plan to live there again.

I was in a mall in Tampa over the weekend and saw the bus schedules. This stuff is all online, BTW.

According to the Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit - HART - Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART), Route 200X from Clearwater runs five times a day in each direction. It's about 45 minutes from the Clearwater pickup to the downtown Tampa station and vice versa.

From the downtown Tampa station it looks like you'd want route 5 to USF campus. It takes about an hour and a quarter either way according to that schedule - HART Local (http://www.gohart.org/routes/hartline/06.html#weekdaynorth - broken link)

Other express busses from Pinellas to Tampa leave from the Gateway Mall in St Pete (100X - about 45 min each way) and the Ulmerton Park & Ride near Starkey Rd. (300X - Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (http://www.psta.net/parknride.htm# - broken link)), about an hour each way.

If you wanted to be on Tampa Bay near Safety Harbor, the 200X route would be convenient. The 300X would be closest to the beaches. Indian Rocks Beach looks to be about 5 miles away from the Ulmerton/Starkey intersection. My experience driving in that area, I'd plan on that 5 miles from the beach taking about 20 minutes.

So it will be about an hour and a half to 2 hours each way by bus.

The problem in Pinellas is that over 90% of all the land is developed, so everything is in-town driving. For example, I live five miles from my office but I need to allow 20-25 minutes to get to work because I have to drive through at least two school zones and many stop signs and traffic lights. About five minutes of that time is spent hiking from the parking lot to the actual building, because there is no close parking.

On the upside, kids do grow up and go away eventually. Then you can live where you want and only worry about your own commute.
