Hi
We are just starting to look at the possibility of purchasing a condo/townhouse or home in the tampa area for when we retire. Want someplace that we could rent out while we are here in Canada for the summers, than we'd stay there for the winter. It would have to be a community where our children would be allowed to visit with grandkids as well as accept pets (dog) I have been looking at places such as Ranaissance Villas, North Bay Village, Whispering Oaks, Carrollwood Village but have NO idea of the area. Want to be someplace safe. Any advice and places to start looking online would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Check out Kings Point at Sun City Center if you're over 55 yrs of age. Lots of rentals. Google search Sun City Center WCI Community for more info. Children can visit, but not stay longer than 60 days (or maybe 30) annually, I think. Very nice place for kids to swim, play golf w/ grandparents, etc. Kings Point has a sentry so security is very ideal, in my opinion (ex military here).

Definately Sun City Center. It's where the folks in my family go to retire and my Grandma is still living there and has been since 1987. She loves it and at 95 and being almost completely blind she can't seem to find five minutes to just sit down as she is always on the go. There is something for everyone in SCC and there is never an excuse for being bored with retirement. I myself will retire there most likely in 30 years.

Good suggestions above. Also Heritage Pines and Heritage Springs are closer to the Gulf coast if that matters. In addition, the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club and The Groves are very popular in the Northeast (Wesley Chapel/Land O Lakes) area.

Each community will have different rental restrictions, but most do not allow short term rentals. In the best case scenario, the lease minimum will be 7 months. Some communities will only allow annual leases. The previous communities all have age restrictions. Some age restricted communities will also have restrictions on the age of the visitors and also the length of time they may stay. Please ask these questions before you purchase.

Carrollwood Village is more residential and is not geared towards a particular age group or lifestyle. There are no age restrictions on purchases or leases.

Click on the links above for more information.

NorthBay Village is on Tampa Bay and is pretty nice. I delivered Meals on Wheels to a few folks there.
