I'm wanting to visit the area this coming summer but I want to visit Tampa and Jax in a short amount of time. I checked out flights to go from Tampa to Jax; it is crazyyyy expensive. Why is this!?! Can someone give me some suggestions??? Greatly appreciate it

Because nobody would ever fly between the two. It's really not that bad of a drive. There's always Amtrak...

I just took my first Amtrak trip from here to south Florida. Loved it. Only took maybe an hour more than driving. Sat next to a very nice person. Extremely comfy and roomy seats. Was my first time on a real train that wasn't a subway or the Tri-rail. Can't beat the price. Eating on the train was a wonderful experience, very orient express. Service was great and I had the best veggie burger ever.

I would definitely do that trip again and as time allows will consider train for my future travel out of state instead of flying.

The major airlines don't really care about this route and thus price it ridiculously. The same problem happens if you try to fly from JAX to FLL or Miami, which is much more of a drive.

However, check Southwest. We have elderly family that are not able to drive from JAX to TPA, and we've been able to get them fares for something reasonable- especially if you catch one of their famous sales.
