This question is for the experts.

We are still considering a move to either Palm Harbor, Clearwater or St Pete. We are interested in finding out what sorts of technology jobs are available.
  1. Where in Tampa Bay area would you guys say are most jobs such as:
  • Business Telephone Installation/Repair/Service
  • Computer Software Support
  • T1, DSL or FIOS Installers/Repair, etc
  • Cable TV or Satellite Installers, etc
  • Big Phone Companies needing technicians
  • Web Developers
2. How much would you say these jobs pay hourly?

3. Which are the most well known employers for these types of jobs?

Thank you so much!

None of those areas are really "tech nerve centers". I mean , let's be honest. This is Florida.

A "tech" job is a guy with a floor buffer making $8/hour.

From the choices you mentioned, i'd say St. Pete, simply cause it's the biggest.

Pay, if you can get in with the right company , might be $10 or $12/hr starting.

Contrary to some naysayers there are jobs out there. Not that jobs are abundant but there are jobs around starting in the 60-70K range. I have a friend who was just hired as a project mgr for a software company in Tampa.

Software and telephony/network/software jobs are more in demand in Tampa. I am not talking about installation work either, but software for telephone companies. There is more than one telephone/network company in Tampa.
