Our district posted an ad today in the Sunday paper looking for teacher and administrator candidates. No mention of the signing bonuses, but I imagine that they are still being offered.

Do they still post ads in newspapers? I haven't seen that for years.

Perhaps they are trying to lure in some retired teachers. I still get a daily paper.

It seems to be a regional thing. Some States have a shortage, and in many teachers can't find a job to save their souls.

Even within a state we see regional differences.

There is a drive to get any certified teachers, anywhere, but he district is making a special pitch to retired teachers. Our former art teacher is likely to come back next semester. She was in the building today with the principal, but I had seen her at an event over the weekend and she told me that she had been offered $225/day for the 90 days that she is allowed to work in a school year. I told her that I had heard that number in an ad for retired teachers.

Our school alone has at least seven positions being held by subs or holders of provisional certificates. We need real teachers in a bad way. I think they are even recruiting overseas. I know there are at least two African teachers teaching French, and one of our Special Ed teachers came from the Philippines to work there.

If anyone wants to make a difference in the inner city, they don't have to join TFA. Just come to Mississippi. Please.

How does your district look?
My district has a growing need for Special Ed teachers and Math positions.
