I am thinking of alternative career options. I have a BA in English, Masters in School Counseling, and have been working as a guidance counselor since 2004. What else can I do with my degrees (outside of a school system?)
There are companies that will hire you with a degree in any field. Lots of sales type positions.
I randomly landed at a title company after leaving teaching. I originally applied at a sister company for a sales job, but learned in the interview they had other jobs outside of sales if I wanted. I didn't want sales, so I happily accepted. I knew virtually nothing about title when I started.

A sales job. Seriously? That's what you consider a good job to pay off a degree that someone worked hard to earn?
I want to get back into the counseling office. I left to raise my kids and now that I am back, I could only get a classroom position.
There are over 100 applicants PER counseling job around here (I am told.) I don't think I will ever get a counseling position here, we will have to move, which we are looking into, back to my former district, where there is currently a shortage of counselors.
Are you just tired of working in schools? I would think with 13 years in the system, you would be giving up a lot in terms of retirement.

While I don't have the personality for it, both my dad and FIL had sales jobs that paid very well. There is a lot more to sales than working at Walmart.

I was getting solicitations for those kinds of jobs since before I even had a degree. They pay either 100% commission or a small base salary or draw plus commission. I would never lower myself to doing those kinds of jobs again. Six years in real estate was enough.
