The Atomic Speedway has closed and is going to be torn down to make way for a distribution center or something similar.

Well that's too bad JMT. At one time it was the fastest dirt track in the US because of the high banks turns. It was a part of native E TN culture. Oh well, another thing gone.

It was a shame that Atomic closed. That was a nice little track. Had some bad owners.
Cookeville is closed. Used to be Tennessee Motor Speedway. It hit rocky times a couple of years ago when the owner/promoter got arrested for all kinds of things, from drugs to IRS problems.
Smoky Mountain, just outside of Maryville, has reopened as Mountain Raceway. That's a good track and one where they used to run NASCAR races, back in the day.

Volunteer Speedway is running strong. It's just off I-80 at Bulls Gap. They have the most big shows there with the top racers coming in.

There's also Tazewell Speedway. Very high banked, up in the mountains near the Cumberland Gap. I always get lost when I try to find my way home from there. Very, very fast track with ultra high banks.

Crossville has stopped running. It comes and goes. So does Wartburg.
There's lots of good racing around. It's a fun way to spend a Saturday night.

Most of the tracks around here are closed down at the end of October, too cold and too much rain.
However, if you can stay to the first of November, hit the Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. just outside of Charlotte.

That's the season finale for the World of Outlaws Dirt Late Model series as well as for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars. Should be a great weekend of racing with all the top names from both types of cars.
The track facilities are very nice and they know how to do a dirt track for good racing. It's next door to the NASCAR track and run by the same folks. Personally, I think the dirt guys put on a much better show.
Bulls Gap has their season ender this weekend. Big names will be in for that one.
