Me and my sister are looking to purchase 6 acres within the next 10 years. We were wondering what city/town would be the best place to settle and develop. Good land with trees. We don't mind clearing it.

We'd love to help however we would need far more information than that. Tennessee covers 42,169 square miles. Need jobs? Schools? What kind of weather do you prefer? What is the population where you live now? It's a good idea to not veer too much from that number, up or down. What are your hobbies? Will you need to visit friends and family? Where are they located?

What hiknapster said. Far western (flat) and far eastern (mountains) TN are so different that it's like a different country. The acreage you require is very specific... do you want exactly 6 acres, or is that a minimum? Are you planning on farming, or are you planning on plopping a house in the middle of trees? Is there anything you'd prefer to be close to? An airport, mountains, lakes, rivers, urban entertainment? Or would you prefer complete isolation?

Absolutely.

I'd like to add that it is roughly a 9-10 hour trip from end to end of this state, depending on where exactly you are. For a lot of people, that's about a day's drive. Aside from the physical differences from end to end, the physical distance means just as much.

To put it in perspective, Memphis is closer to Dallas than it is to the Tri Cities (in the NW corner of the state), and likewise, the Tri Cities are closer to Washington, D.C. than Memphis.

Sit back with a cup of coffee or cocoa...and read what the State has too offer.. Contact the local Chamber of Commerce..most information is free.
Home - TN.gov and take a trip threw the photo album on the main page.. Then explore the state.. visit ~ camp and ask the locals questions.

WOW 10 years is a long time. Of course the price of land should be cheaper than in 10 years. But I was just thinking a lot could change in that time. Are you sure? But I guess you did say within the next 10 years, so it could be next year or so. Places change and people change.
Either way would need a lot more info in order to try to point you in the right direction. Everyone on this forum is very helpful. Where are you moving from?

1. Need a job?

2. Hobbies? Lakes?

3. Mountains or flat?

4. City or County?

5. Small or Big town?

6. North, South, East or West?

7. Restricted or unrestricted land?

8. What is your view and your sisters view of a perfect place for you and your sister?

Best of luct in your search.
