My wife and I are considering relocating to the Maryville Tennessee area.
We will be semi-retired. I am into hot rods/ classic cars and she loves to cook.
Could someone please tell us about Blount County. We received some stuff from the Chamber of Commerce on Blount and it looks great. Hows the home situation there and would it be affordable? Also, does Maryville have cable for TV and Broadband. ( I order car parts on the internet) E-Bay and stuff. Also, how's the noise from the airport?
Thanks a lot,
Ron & Marianne

It is a wonderful area and the noise from the airport depends alot on where you buy an home. I think the housing thing is actually pretty affordable and they do have cable and broadband. The cable is available everywhere, but the broadband is still not in some areas so I would check on that when I was looking for a home if I where you. My husband and I recently moved from there (3 months ago) and we were only ever able to have dial up even though just about every street around us already had access to broadband. BellSouth was trying to get it everywhere so it is just a matter of time.

Default Airport Noise

My parents moved to Louisville--just down the road from the airport and the noise was never a problem. I have even stayed at the Hilton next to the airport and was not bothered by any noise. It is a pretty small airport and I don't think planes land or take off overnight. At least, that is what I noticed. You can always stay at one of the hotels near the airport and see for yourself.

I moved to Maryville, TN about a year ago after graduating from college in Oklahoma. The experience has been life changing, and there are many reasons for that. First, the people I have encountered have been completely hateful. I don't understand how there could be so many rude, mean, closed minded people in one place. Second, don't drive the speed limit! You go atleast fifteen miles an hour over the posted speed limit, if not, other drivers will let you know. Third, it's been a nightmare looking for a job. I don't understand why I still have not been able to find a job????? I have never faced anything like this. Like I said I am a college graduate with work experience and I cannot find a job. It's not that there are no jobs, if you look, there are plenty of jobs and that is what is so confusing to me? I have heard people tell me that if your not from this area you will have a problem. I researched the area extensively before I moved. I thought this place would be perfect since I am a chritian, love the mountains, love people, and am full of enthusiasm, well I was full of enthusiasm. Now, I am bitter, jobless and don't know what to do next. So before anybody decides to move to the knoxville area visit first and see for yourself. Also there is a pollution issue that the locals don't really want to talk about? SMOG! Look at the EPA reports!! It is a big problem here! At this stage I view Maryville/Knoxville and surounding areas the worst place to live in the country based on my own experience. This whole experience has changed my life forever.

Maryville seemed more like melting pot to me. Many of the people my husband and I met were tranplants from other areas of the country and they all moved there and are very happy with the area as where we, we miss it like crazy and look forward to going back for a visit very soon to see all our friends.
I found just about everyone friendly and when I moved there had no problem acclimating to the area. I never encountered a rude person, not to say that there are not any, you will find them anywhere.

I haven't been there but one of the Sgts at the Sheriff's Office my husband currently works at is from there and dying to go back. He said it was the best place in the entire world. Now that hubby and I bought a home in Bone Cave (east of Nashville) he is very seriously looking into moving back.
Like I said, I haven't been there myself and he has been gone for about 7 years, but when he was there he said it was the best.
