Interesting for the Tri Cities:
Johnson City - 87,481
Kingsport - 70,799
Bristol (TN-VA) - 52,879

Crossville, Cookeville, Morristown, and Oak Ridge aren't surprising to me, either. They all feel a bit bigger than their population indicates.
The numbers for Johnson City and Kingsport support my argument that Johnson City's traffic woes are worsening at an alarming pace. Also of note is congestion on I-26 between Johnson City and Kingsport.

Johnson City's traffic is better than any other city of its size that I know of. Ive heard outsiders specifically mention the good traffic flow. There are about 2-3 spots in the city that better red light timing would speed things up during peak times. But most of the day, you can drive anywhere through the city without having to sit through any traffic at all. The biggest congestion that I have witnessed here is Hwy. 11E between Jonesborough and JC. Still, its a 5 minute difference between driving straight through with no cars on the road, and the "congestion" witnessed in this area.

Different viewpoints, I suppose.

For what it's worth, I do travel...at least more than your average college student.

I will say that Johnson City needs to be thinking long term. If growth continues for another 20 years, I could see some major issues without some significant redesigns of a few areas. I think this is probably true with most cities
