  5. Destin FL

  25. Tampa FL (3 airlines)
And while not typically thought of as beach destinations, there are flights to three other California airports: Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco (2 airlines).

Burbank is just 24 miles from the coast and is a much easier drive to the beaches at Ventura, Silver Strand, Port Hueneme, and of course the great surfing at Ormond Beach than is LAX. It's great to hop on a plane in Nashville and a few hours later be on the Ventura Freeway without having to change planes somewhere. And while not a beach, Burbank is also the closest airport to Hollywood and Universal Studios, another great weekend in the sun.

If you want a fun, long weekend on a beautiful Southern California beach, there are four Southern California airports with nonstop flights out of Nashville: Burbank, LAX, Orange County, and San Diego. And then there are the three Bay Area airports (Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose) which also have nonstop flights from Nashville. I guess I could've included them in the list of beach destinations since there are plenty of beautiful Northern California beaches close by (particularly close to SFO and SJC).

Tom Naughton is a blogger (among other things) who moved to Tennessee from Los Angeles. He loves it there. His posts including the word "tennessee" are here: https://www.fathead-movie.com/?s=ten...&submit=Search

I've been looking at retiring to Knoxville, but from Northern California. I'll be a young retiree (50) soon and would like to move within the next 2 years or less. I'm very iffy on the humidity and mosquito situation though. I plan on taking a quick trip there next year to scope out some locations I have my eye on.I love riding my road bike so it will be a challenge with the humidity. But the pros seems to outweigh the cons. I would love to live in a southern state too. Good luck with your move!

While Burbank may be 24 miles to A beach, it certainly would not be a quick drive. I grew up in SoCa and am quite familiar with Burbank. I was born close by in Glendale.
If I was planning on going to the beaches in Ventura County, Burbank would not be my airport of choice.
Funny you should mention Ormond Beach. My family had a beach house in Port Hueneme very close to the SeeBee base, before the put in the marina. Ormond Beach used to be a nice one (those there is better surfing in Ventura County and near the LA/Ventura County lines. However, homeless encampments has changed Ormond Beach drastically.

At any rate, I was just poking a little fun at the inclusion of Burbank airport as a beach destination.
