Thumbs up Chlorine and filtering water

I know a lot of people complain of the taste and odor problems with chlorine.

Just a note: It is possible that in some cases insufficient chlorine can actually cause the taste and odor problems..this occurs when chlorine combines with other chemicals to form a compound that smells and tastes like chlorine.

If I was having excessive problems with the taste and odor I would obtain a water test kit that can test for "total chlorine" vs. "free available chlorine".

Carbon filtering can remove chlorine--That solves the problem of the taste regardless of the problem.

Here is one note of concern with filtering your water. I don't recommend that you pre-filter a large amount of water and not use it immediately. The problem with this is that by removing the free residual chlorine, you have left the water more susceptible to contamination. In other words, there is nothing in the filtered water to kill any new bacteria or viruses that may be introduced.

This all depends on how you store and use the filtered water. Just remember--I recommend that you use any filtered water immediately just to be on the safe side. Kerry
