We are moving out of the snow of Buffalo,we have 2 sons 10 and 14, our 14 yr old is handicaped,he walks but is unsteady, hills are a big problem. we love animals and open fields, and views of mountains. We like to have lots of acreage, like to be out of town, without long comute to groceries. Need to be within an hour of a good hospital with Nuero surgery. Need suggestions of what part of Tennessee would be best.My husband is a building contractor, and would need work, so not so small of an area that there wouln't be work for him.

That's kind of a tough call, most areas near mountains are hilly to some degree. Except for the far western part of the state, much of Tennessee is rolling hills to mountains. The further east you go, the more mountainous the terrain.

Here's a few ideas just to get you started: Shelbyville and Tullahoma in Middle Tennessee. Some medical care is availbable locally; advanced medical care is available in Nashville, which is a couple of hours away. Maybe one of the "further out" areas near Murfreesboro. I'll also throw out Clarksville as another possibility. There wouldn't be mountain views in any of these Middle Tennessee locations. Middle Tennessee is mostly rolling hills, from lightly rolling to very steep in places. Up near Clarksville along the Kentucky border there is a plain that is fairly level.

Over in East Tennessee it's more mountainous, but the valley along the Tennessee River is less so. Some place like Maryville might fit your needs. Advanced medical care would be available in Knoxville. It's still pretty hilly over there; but I bet your son could adjust. It's wouldn't be like he'd be walking up a San Francisco street everywhere he went.

These are just "starter" ideas. Someone else might have a better suggestion for you.

Neuro surgery? You will want to be within an hour of Vanderbilt Univ. Medical Center in Nashville. Good luck to you.

We have certainly been saying Brrrr here in Clarksville over the past couple of days. Our Mid-Spring Winter which seems to occur every year. I agree with SMG above - you want to be within an hour of Vandy Medical Center.

What is Tellico Plains, Tn Like? We found a house we want to look at. Things I can pull up on the computer seem like it is a small town, not real far from Knoxville. Any input there?

Buffalo is on the thaw! I heard about the cold and the tornados, not good! The house we are looking at has a crawl space, no basement.

You should have no problem finding a home with a crawl space in Tennessee.
