Anyone with wants to delve deeply into the history and culture of East Tennessee should go to http://www.wbir.com/rss/heartland.aspx for a nearly inexhaustible source of material. Back in the '90s this series ran on the Travel Channel under the title "Appalachian Stories." You will not be disappointed.
