20 years old, eh? Maybe a college town like Bryan/College Station. San Angelo would be good.

Could you give us some more information about what you want?

How about Round Rock, near Austin, League City, between Houston and Galveston, College Station,, one of the towns outside of Dallas.

College Station is about 1 1/2 to Houston and a couple of hours to Austin. College town, so lots of "night life". You may want to read the moving to college station thread, though.

If you're looking for a big town with a small town feel, you may consider Lubbock (also a college town). If you live somewhere really scenic, be prepared for flatness and no trees, though. What the place lack in scenery it makes up for in nice people.

You might also consider San Marcos/New Braunfels, which are right between San Antonio and Austin

Where are you moving from? That might help in suggesting places. Texas is a huge state and the terrain/weather/ etc. changes a lot throughout the state.

Really? San Diego was about the only city in California I found I liked. Anyhow, I suppose it depends on what you're exactly looking for. There's plenty of smaller towns near larger cities that way you don't have to live in the city. For instance, I'm moving to San Marcos in a couple of weeks. It's only 25 miles south of Austin and is also home to Texas State University - all situated in the beautiful hill country.
