Here is an article about the new near zero emission coal plant in Odessa.

Texas 'clean coal' plant passes regulatory hurdle | McClatchy

There are two things that surprised me about this.

1. I was, and am, skeptical that it will ever actually be built.

2. Wow! People have no idea what "clean coal" actually means. I originally found this article on Wonkette.com. That site answers the question "what if you had a retarded baboon and gave it a horrible brain injury and a blog?" Seriously the comments there were absolutely clueless.

Good news for Texas and for Odessa. I hope they build it, we need plants with clean coal technology in this country, it's certainly a better alternative to regular coal plants.

A proposed $2.2 billion "clean coal" plant in West Texas has leapt a major regulatory hurdle, receiving approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for an air-quality permit.

Does this mean the fight between Texas and the EPA mean that this TCEQ permit is pointless?

Texas, EPA fight grows fierce (http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/texas-epa-fight-grows-fierce-1155065.html - broken link)

I love these ignorant writers...

Do you really believe the coal fired power plants utilizing modern scrubber technology currently being built in the united states is the true problem ?

So because China now leads the world in pollution, we can just loosen our standards and pollute more?

We have a lot of coal here in the US, we need to learn how to use it safely, without poisoning our environment in the process. We need to encourage China to do likewise, but we also need to do our part.

I don't think that is what he was getting at.
