Perry wants to chop 4 Texas agencies | Houston & Texas News | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7417742.html - broken link)

Perry's spokesman Mark Miner's response--
Texas must learn to live within its means--

does that mean the Governor is moving into smaller rental property--doing with fewer staff--
don't think so

does it mean he will be restricting HIS outside travel like the recent trip to CA when the snow storm was in our area--
don't think so...

Do what I say--not what I do--that seems to be Perry's mantra...

Let's start with cutting the TABC and moving on from there.

Basically I doubt I really want hium living in a trialer as White said during the campaign. He is only one person and the head exective ;so it is peanuts really. I favor cuts but law enforcement last like other basis services.

It is only the poor and middle class that he expects to live within their means, after they absorb the upcoming tax and fee increases of course.

LOL .....outside travel like the recent trip to CA...that's funny. Dang, he should have joined up with Michelle Obama on her recent lavish trip to Spain. As a matter of fact, if he is thinking about running for president, he should get cozy now with the Obamas and maybe they'll show him the ropes on travel trips. Nothing like learning from the best.

Did anyone actually read this article??? He is cutting government waste and consolidating agencies. The article didn't mention a single social program so I'm not sure why the liberals are upset unless they really believe land surveyors need their own agency to regulate them.

Thank God that White didn't get elected. He would probably create a new state agency to propose cost cutting measures (in addition to the one we already have, the Sunset Advisory Commission).

I'm not a big fan of Perry's, but it appears that he is cutting funding to non-essential agencies. We cannot continue to pay for things that we cannot afford.

Cutting Non-Essential agencies is what we must cut, and it looks like Perry is doing that.

Unnecessary things such as public education...who needs that?

Well, Texas isn't exactly known as a bastion for culture and the arts. If you can't pass for 300 with 2 TDs or rush for 100 with 10 carries, what good are you? And the "efficiency" and consolidation was only referenced as to one set of departments (i.e. health), doesn't sound like it will be a bad idea to create one organization. It will probably still mean job losses and turf wars inside of those organizations upon melding, but such is the price one must pay.
This is what happens during budget crises, things get cut. It just so happens that in this case it's something for which Texans don't have a very high regard. Education, arts, and history. Unless is the kind of history which you can selectively celebrate and inflate to make it seem as though you can still become your own country (which you cannot), and permit you to ignore that you were ever once a part of a country you never tire of denigrating (Que onda, Mexico!).

The Texas Enterprise Funds had better be on the chopping block as well. Seeing as how these funds fail to contribute to job creation and are only good for Perry contributors. But somehow, I doubt these funds will even be touched.

By the way, I must agree with those who question whether the governor's $10K a month rental is really the best example of the "fiscal discipline" he claims is critical to the state's health. No one is saying the guy needs to move into a trailer park, but $10K a month? Seriously?
