Thanks for that! My wife and I graduated from UNT, and we loved Denton and the music scene at the university back then. This article really makes me want to go back for another visit. I love the place.

We are old. My wife graduated in 1967 and I in 1968. We both started life as music majors at other universities. When we married, our sophomore year, we transferred to UNT because of its reputation for music. It was the only university in the state teaching traditional AND alternative music at the time. The 1:00 jazz band was nationally famous, and the school of music was (and I suppose still is) nationally ranked. Unfortunately, we were unable to keep up our music studies because of the hours of work required after we married, but we learned enough in two years there to continue to be involved in music. The two years I got there taught me more than many folks that I know who have four years and a degree in music. My music profs were awesome and taught me that contemporary music and jazz had their good points. (Prior to that, I thought that no good music had been written since Bach died.) It was a great experience, and I have fond memories of both the university and the city.

I lived in Denton 1993-8. Nice college town and he University of North Texas is one of the better universities in the state. Great in music and public administration.
There are lots of transients and quite a bit of crime as its part of DFW.

I moved to Rockport in late 1998 and like it much better.

I began at NTSU in 84 and went until 87. I stupidly quit, then went back in 94 and graduated in 98.

I would say a good portion of my formative years were spent there. The music scene was hopping, and I loved the art school there. Still do. I lived in Maple Hall for 2 years and Bruce for one. Had lots of friends in the music school who absolutely adored it.

Sorry, I didn't have any friends in public management, but I'm sure if it's as good as you heard, that's spot on.

I'm sorry to hear about the new chancellor. And I was heartbroken to learn about Fry Street. But I think if you give it a chance, you may enjoy it quite a bit there.

Some of my favorite places were Recycled Books and Records on the square (amazing selection!), Sleeping Lizzards gift shop, and The Cupboard Natural Food store (the cafe inside is really good. Try the Mediterranean Tuna Salad!)
