We go to the fair every year and get there early to have a cinnamon roll in the Tower Building, but we may have to forgo that this year to have the deep fried bacon wrapped cinnamon roll. And ALWAYS a Fletcher's corny dog. The rest of the deep-fried stuff - too much for my heart to take to have more than two deep-fried anything in one day. Oh yea - don't forget the chocolate milk from the Borden's exhibit.

I forgot about that! Yes, a definite must do. We make sure to get a chocolate milk at the Borden's exhibit at the Fort Worth fat stock show when we go. Seems to always hit the spot!

They need to open the State Fair to private food vendors. Its absurd that the Fair runs its own concessions. The small county fairs in rural TX have far better food (and service) as a result.

Ugh.

Chocolate milk and corndogs aren't going to be significantly healthier than something that has been deep-fried.

The State Fair DOES use private food vendors. They have to apply for spaces each year. Where di you get your info?

Same here! It sounds crazy, but bacon adds something to just about anything!

I am glad there is more and more appreciation for the traditional art (and grandma taught it to us) of Texas/Southern frying. So, with all these new fried items coming out? Let's give thanks to grandma, momma...and remember fried bacon and okra and yeller squash. Simple and good...and couldn't get enough of it..

No perfume on the most beautiful woman on earth comes close to rivaling the scent of bacon frying on a Sunday morning... especially in our part of the country!

Bacon is awesome. I have a vegetarian daughter (I know, where the heck did she come from?) and she admits that she still loves the smell of frying bacon!

LOL TXNGL? I once told my own kids that there were only two circumstances under which I would "disown" them, and then try and get custody of my grandchildren on the grounds of child-abuse.

There were:

1. If they ever denied their Texas/Southern roots, or;

2. Became vegetarians and denied their own kids the classic experience of down-home Texas/Southern cooking!

So far, that issue has not come up...but we grandparents must be ever watchful....

(note to the literal minded: I am just kidding around! Sorta! )
