Another rising star for luxury shopping is Southlake Town Square, which is getting nicer stores as time goes by. Although not haute couture, international luxury stores like Brooks Brothers, Coach, Michael Kors, J. Crew, Lulu Lemon and True Religion are very busy in Southlake's downtown.

For travel, there is Bag 'n Baggage, which sells three luxury travel brands at the Southlake location: Rimova, Tumi, and Briggs and Riley. That's where we go for luggage…the Rimowa luggage was selling even upwards of $1,500 and sets were approaching $4,000!

Lastly, Malouf's is a wonderful luxury boutique from Lubbock. They sell top-notch custom and RTW formal clothing as well as shoes and handbags. Their selection includes world-renowned names such as: Ermenegildo Zegna, Herve Leger, Longchamp, Canali, Zanella, Trina Turk, Rag & Bone, Vince, Hermes, Tory Burch, Tumi, Kate Spade, etc.

Pottery Barn is another high-end store, which drove Crate & Barrel out of business.

In the near future, Nordstrom will call Southlake Town Square home…not sure if they will move from the NE Mall or not.

Of course Dallas is going to have all the luxury shops.
Luxury shops for luxurious people.
Houston like Dallas has a lot of image concious luxury loving consumers who only want the best and don't mind showing off. Like Dallas it also has a the old moneyed crowd that has been buying luxury for decades and isn't as flashy and public. Both cities have an intense fall and spring social calendar, and PaperCity and Modern Luxury have an extensive mailing list.

Aside from becoming a fashion center, Dallas somehow has higher quality shopping venues being HPV and Northpark Center. The storefronts are just gorgeous. This may seem trivial to most, but to me, architecture is something I'm always observing.

I think it's a great addition to that neighborhood. I'm not sure if the Houston location of Winston's Supper Club has opened yet, but that will definitely change things up a bit down there.
LOL.
I didn't mean to sound snarky.
I was just stating the truth. It is practically common knowledge (and pretty stereotypical) that Dallas has the best shopping market in the entire state.
All the major shopping shops are located in Dallas. If a major fashion show is to be held, they are going to go to Dallas. If there is a chain that opens in all of the major cities in Texas, the one in Dallas will outperform all of them by about 200%. Dallas reigns in shopping in every way. There's nothing wrong with that.
Houston has a lot of great stuff, but this one certainly goes to Dallas.

Thanks for the update.

It seems like you always leave some stores off of the Galleria Dallas list. I would certainly consider stores like Brahmin, Karen Millen England, Uno de 50, Dooney & Bourke to be higher end stores. Even stores like Marciano, BCBGeneration, Carlo Pazolini and St Croix are not common stores found at just any mall.

Another thing I noticed is that most of the bolded stores in Houston had a Dallas location at one point and have closed for one reason or another. I wonder if any will make a return to the market up here.

Pertaining to the luxury of organic foods, I decided to research locations for Austin-based Whole Foods and San Antonio-based Central Market by HEB. Somehow, Dallas is still the preferred market for both Whole Foods and Central Market. I'm assuming the companies figure local income when scouting for a potential location due in part to the higher prices for organic grocery, but what other factors make the DFW market a greater opportunity than the Houston market?

Whole Foods

DFW: 12 (McKinney Ave/Colleyville/Highland Village in development)
Houston metro: 9 (Champions/Post Oak in development)

Central Market

DFW: 5
Houston metro: 1

1. Houston is a wealthier city than Dallas.

2. Houston has HEB.

3. Dallas is a larger trade market.

1. If it is...nobody can ever tell going by these lists posted.
2. H.E.B is no better than Minyards and fiesta...We have Tom Thumb also.Randals is disappearing out of Houston.
3. Which is the very reason this thread is comical.

HEB will not be opening up anymore central markets. The just opened the montrose store that you can find a larger wine, cheese, organic food than normal HEBs.

We get it! Dallas has more shopping options because it is a retail city.
