Hi,

My husband and I are thinking about moveing to Texas from NJ. WE are looking for Something with a small town feel, good schools, friendly neighbors, and a nice chunk of land (at the bare minimum a half an acre)without the high price tag. We would also need to be able to find decent paying jobs with good benefits. My husband is currently a department manager at a food store. Our children are young (ages 6, 3, 9 mos.) so looking for a good grammar school.

Also if anyone has made the move from the east coast to Texas i would like to here your experiences (likes, dislikes). Anything that was to hard to adjust to, or that you can't do without now.

Be careful when you ask for "a nice chunk of land" in Texas that means considerably more than 1/2 acre. What you want is a spacious or large yard.

To stay within "nice paying jobs" I would say look in the DFW area. You could go to McKinney, Denton, Justin, Corinth....really anything in the DFW area....you can still get little "ranchette" neighborhoods w 1/2 acre and your husband would be close enough to the DFW area to commute w a decent salary. If you move too far outside the metroplex...the salarie will go down.

You can find equally "Nice paying jobs" in Houston just like you can in DFW. Really depends on what you're looking for. Austin, too, but to a lesser extent. And San Antonio to an even lesser extent.

In Houston suburbs you can get a house on a cul de sac lot of about 1/3 acre max. You'd have to get the house on the very end of the circle. I'm sure there are places in DFW this way too. This could be another option to consider.
