Tax Free Texas weekend coming up, August 9 - 11, 2013.

Sales Tax Holiday (98-490)

Senate Bill 485 (83rd Regular Legislative Session, 2013) sets Aug. 9-11 as the dates of this year’s annual Sales Tax Holiday. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

What a nightmare! When my kids were in school, I always made it a point to be sure my shopping was done by the Thursday before the tax holiday. People (@ least in El Paso & McAllen) would act like animals fighting over clothes just to save a few cents of tax! One of my daughters worked retail at the mall, & this weekend was more dreaded than Black Friday!

Yes, all the crap of dealing with people to save ~ $8.25 on $100.00 spent. People cant even do basic math. You would think they hit the lottery or something.

And all the sales occur after the tax holiday, so in the end you rarely save anything by going on tax-free weekend...

A TV ad came on for someone yelling about "Tax Free Weekend", and I asked my 15 yr old "What two days do we ALWAYS avoid shopping?"

He promptly and easily answered "Tax Free Weekend, and Black Friday!"

I think he is trained...

Another dumb idea from Texas,
why not just subsidize school supplies and save people time and energy
