Cisco, Texas???
I posted this on the Ft Worth forum, but no takers. Thought I might have better luck here...
My husband and I keep going back and forth about where to buy property. We looked at some towns in TX and then started looking at TN b/c of the weather there. But we keep coming back to looking at TX. We both grew up here and have family here so it is tough to think of leaving (despite the HOT summers!)
Well, now we've come across a great-looking property in Cisco, TX. It is in Eastland County, an hour east of Abilene. We will probably take a drive out there soon, but I don't want to waste the gas if the town has a terrible reputation or something.
Anyone here know anything about it - good or bad? I know it's wooded there, is it rolling or flat? What are the schools like? What's the atmosphere like as far as welcoming new residents? Is the city clean/well maintained?
Thanks!
Sonshine

Well, I was raised mostly in Abilene and I have at least a general impression of pretty much every town around the area. As far as I know, Cisco is just like every other small country town within an hour of Abilene. They have basic amenities, but people still drive to Abilene regularly to shop and do business. I'd say give it a look. More than likely, you'll find that it is just a quiet country town like much of the area.

I lived in Cisco, Texas
I lived in Cisco for 8 years and absolutely loved it. It is a small, country town and it has rolling hills. If you want to be socially active, join clubs, ect. and you will easily make friends and have activities. If you don't want the social life, it's easy to have a quite, private life there. The people there are the best...it's a small town where people help people. Being that it's a very small town, you won't have many of the things you will in a larger city, however, Abilene is only 45 miles away (all interstate) and Ft. Worth/Dallas isn't that far. I hope you'll look at the area...I think it's a great, caring community.

I grew up in Eastland, 10 minutes from Cisco. I think Cisco is considered to have good schools. They even went to the State finals in basketball this past year (I think it was basketball, maybe football?). Eastland has great schools also. I personally think they are better, but I may have a bias. It is a small town, and Cisco would only be about 40 minutes from Abilene, which has most things you would want shopping wise. I've been gone from the area for a few years, but I don't think that area is really growing or progressing. Eastland is growing much quicker and getting all sorts of new stuff, like Starbucks and Super Walmart. Cisco is kind of dying and there is not much there at all. The reputation is not bad, like Ranger's is, but it is not as good as Eastland or Breckenridge. I would explore Eastland also. Check out the Eastland web site www.eastlandtexas.com . Lots of art things are going on in Eastland also, like an outdoor art museum and lots of other museums. They also have a new water park at the city park. It is really a great place, and they are starting a new housing addition sometime soon if you want a new house. Hope this helps!

moving to cisco
I too am trying to move to cisco. I am from there but have been away for 18 years. I went up there this week to check on the housing market. I found that it is way to pricey for the area. Cisco has been going down for many years. From what I was told by one realestate agent, It seems that most houses are empty because of the elderly. Most are in nusing homes but cant sell their houses(income). I love the peace and quiet there and look forward to living there, If I ever find a house. Go luck on your search and if you choose Cisco I think that you will enjoy the town.
