Clear Lake and Friendswood if you want to be reminded of New York traffic without any decent public transportation. Get stuck on I-45 when you need to be at Hobby or in Houston. NO thanks!

Rockport as others suggested may be the nicest Texas Coastal town -it's always getting mentioned in lists etc. Rockport where I live now is 25 min from my house to the Courthouse in Corpus . Not bad 35 min to the airport.

Rockport is primarily tourism.
And a much longer drive to any major airport.

Corpus Christi has the ugliest beaches I've ever seen and the bay is ridiculously polluted. Not worth moving to unless you enjoy ridiculous humidity and the most depressing beach scene possible.

Agreed.

Also, depending on how significant the budget, there is some pretty sweet real estate in the Nassau Bay/Clear Lake/Seabrook/Kemah areas; Mediterranean type architecture, palm trees, with water views or even on water with boat ramps. Good schools, highly educated populace because of NASA and related, hardly just tourism (that would be more the nearby Galveston Island though even it has a big UT Medical facility).

"Other places" is quite a vague term that includes a wide spectrum oceans, including those better than or worse than those in Texas.

Corpus Christi's beach is far from ugly; the city is right near the Padre Island complex, with white sands, and turquoise water. Humidity in Corpus is no different than that in the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Rockport is far from being primarily tourism, especially when you compare it to someplace like Port Aransas.

Rockport is not touristy at all. It is a short distance from a regional airport, but yes, a couple hour drive from any international airports.

CC beaches beat Galveston area beaches by a LONG shot.

Here are Google image search pictures of Corpus Christi beaches:

Mustang Island
JP Luby
Padre Island Natl Seashore
Mcgee Beach
North Beach
Port Aransas

Definitely not the best. But far from ugly.

What makes you think the poster is from Galveston or posted what he posted in comparison to Galveston? I guess when all you have is a hammer all problems look like nails!

Uh huh.

Sorry, I'm quite familiar with Port A and Rockport.

Mostly tourism or similar lower pay hospitality type economies.

I don't know what it is with some Texans and their outdated anti-Houston, anti-Galveston attitudes. It's a little irrational.

LOL. As if the photoshopped, re-touched and most choice postcard shots found on Google images are an actual indicator of the reality of what these beaches look like day-to-day.

Sorry to burst your tourism board bubble, but spending a day at a Corpus beach or finding out how insanely polluted the waters there are is no fun at all.
