At least two or three of those criteria are mutually exclusive.

You are a "hair stylist", not a "hairstyles". Yes, people in Texas have hair that needs cutting and coloring. Options range from $10 Supercuts cuts to $200 high end salon cuts.

Felons don't typically get good paying jobs. Not in Texas nor any other place I can think of.

My take:

Most places would get a better in Texas than Kali IMO. Social distractions abound there. Having said that education is what you make of it and there are sites that rank education quality so you do that homework on this . At 14 years old though study habits and educational foundation is already developed.

Safe neighborhoods will be another homework issue. On being welcomed as an AA... show your quality of character, don't have a chip on your shoulder if you perceive someone might have offended you. This is the western edge of the Old South and the way national politicians are hammering the Old South demanding it be wiped from our history , well some folks don't appreciate it thus some folks have their dander up over being constantly hammered by this. I will say this ... the further west you are the less these attitudes are around.

Best chance at a good paying job would be in the oil and gas industry which is in a downturn right now. I might add what was the nature of his felony? If it was a violent or firearm offense then the stakes become higher for potential employers. I might also add that he might get in a large corporations, AT THE BOTTOM RUNG OF THE LADDER and work your way up. This will require patience and having long term goals (is your man that kind of guy?). HEB is a good Christian based corporation.

You can develop your business/clientele almost anywhere. I'd look at mid-range cities. Do your skills involve all types of hair (styles/color skills/ differing races)? This last is important, if you only do AA hair then these areas with more dense populations increase your potential success.

So, there is much to chose and contemplate here. I almost always recommend smaller towns because of safety and friendliness. [mod cut]

The real question is, how many threads are needed before we get to the bottom of this, guys? Seriously, the OP needs to KNOW, no matter how many threads it takes.
The move from Los Angeles to TEXAS are ARKANSAS

Relocating to Texas maybe Arkansas
