I have an opportunity to relocate to Amarillo from out-of-state, and I am looking for a nice and safe area to live. I am a single mom with a 6th grader. Therefore, an area with good middle school would be great. I would consider private school if necessary. I can afford $1200-$1600 per month in rent. I like the residence at town square, but it is a bit far from work. I would prefer the Wolflin area, but I cannot tell how safe it will be. Also, how easy will it be to find (hire) someone to help drive my child to school?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Hello, Canyon might work.It is a small and nice town south of Amarillo.I think it has good schools. However, I dont know if it is far from work but commuting prolly would not be a issue since its not a big city.Best of luck and welcome to the great state of Texas.

Far south Amarillo is safe and rapidly expanding. if you want you could try to find a place at the end of Georgia st and the commute to working area, Amarillo is safe but I second that canyon is safer and the schools are better. If you can handle a 15-20 min commute.

Thank you for the quick responses! Canyon sounds like the best option, but it will be 40+ miles away from work. It is worth considering as a trade-off for safety.

If it's closer to your work, you might consider Bushland, west of Amarillo. Good schools, very safe, at least three routes into town so you don't have to run I-40 every day, not that it's crowded (just under construction all the time).

Where do you work? (the general area). Amarillo is safe and Wolflin is a beautiful area. I have a 6th grader so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. You have a nice amount for rent, so you will be fine.

OK, I believe we would be working at the same place. I live in SW Amarillo and my child goes to Bonham MS. Very good school. Feel free to pm me if you have more questions.
