Is it so hard to live in Texas? If the heat is so miserable why isn't everyone moving out of there? What keeps you in Texas?

Best falls, winters, and springs ever.

It's not "so hard" to live here, but I freely admit that I don't enjoy July, August and September. The rest of the year is fabulous!

This humidity is outrageous. We only hit 100 degrees one time in Dallas-Fort Worth this summer but because of the humidity, it feels well over 100 degrees. When we did hit 100 degrees, the humidity made it feel as high as 112 degrees. The heat and humidity is brutal! Fall can't come soon enough!

To tell the truth, I would much prefer Texas' weather to Mars'. At least I can go walk outside even in the hottest part of the day and still live jk

Now, to really answer your question. First, I hate the cold and I love the heat. Four seasons do not really do much for me. The fall is awesome, but from inside somewhere. I hate that crisp coldness in the air. To me it's a constant reminder that everything is about to freeze over again and either hibernate or die. Yea, I really hate the cold. Also, the only really hot days limited to a specific time of year and even then the evenings are perfect for me. I do very well with 80 degrees in the evening.

Another point is how green Houston is. Its a swamp and I love swamps. They are fascinating areas full of life and are very important ecosystems.

I guess that it just boils down to the fact that not everyone wants four seasons or cool evening breezes, I get chilled easily (in Spanish we say I'm "friolento"). There obviously are millions of people that prefer hotter climates. Why is this even a question? It seems kind of obvious to me. There are people that actually love Texas, its geography and climate.

When I was in my 20s I lived in the desert (Tucson AZ) and would hike sometimes even in the middle of the day when it was 110'F. In my 40s, my body isn't having it. Anything 90'F and above can be torturous for me.

Thus, I've been pleased with how summer has been this year (although I wonder when the other shoe will drop, that is when the law of averages will catch up). Our home needs its A/C beefed up as it really struggles to keep things respectable in here if it gets particularly hot outside. (I currently have 2 A/Cs in the living room of about 10,000 BTUs each, I figure I need to install a 220V oulet and put an 18,000 BTU or maybe even a 25,000 BTU in there.) I've been able to put that off, however, and I just might make it through to this year and might be able to put it off until next year. It has hovered around 91-94'F much of this period when we'd typically be hitting 97 or even 100. We've also had cloudier days than usual which has helped keep it from getting extreme.

When I was younger I HATED it being cloudy, actually I still can feel that way if you're talking temperatures around 70 or 80 and you're coming off of winter, but if it wants to be cloudy when it's 90 then by all means go ahead. I know you have the humidity, but to me when it's HOT the sun is the key stress factor more than anything else.
