I've been researching relocation to Alpine, Brewster County, TX. I'm curious as to why so many people are leaving Alpine,TX? TIA.

Why are you considering relocating to Alpine? Do you have a job opportunity there or possibly thinking of retiring? Also curious where you find that so many people are leaving Alpine. It's an extremely remote area. Population seems to hover around 6000.

The reason I say people are leaving is according to city data information. Also, there seems to be quite a bit of real estate moving. I don't want to mention why I'm interested in moving to the area. Just personal reasons.

Yes, they lose population for the same reason that most towns less than 10,000 people, lose people, nationwide!

OP, have you BEEN to Alpine? It is damn sight better than Van Horne but that isn't saying much. Why Alpine? I'd pick Marathon or Ft Davis if I was moving to West Texas.

OK. Well I find it to be a pretty area. As I mentioned it's very remote. I suppose many kids raised there probably end up leaving unless they love it, and they might be selling their family homes.

I'm taking a trip out there in the next 6 weeks. I say Alpine but I'll be looking around the satellite towns, as well. I haven't been to the area in 20 years, so we will see! Thanks to everyone who has responded.

The Alpine/Ft. Davis area is one of my favorite places on earth, and my husband and I visit regularly. There aren’t a lot of well-paying jobs or the types of opportunities that many people feel are mandatory in today's world. That may be the main reason for the area's lack of growth. The people are amazing, the sense of community is inspiring, and the beauty of the area is incomparable. Go visit, Alpine may tick all of the boxes for you. We made the difficult choice not to live there because my husband has medical needs that cannot be met by the regional hospital.
