I am moving to Texas. I would like to be near a base or VA.

I am looking for a community or city with middle aged single women who desire friendships. I am past way, way, way, way past the dating thing!
I am looking for friendships with other single women that would love to travel by car, boat, train or plane. I want to celebrate holidays with many, birthdays, learn crafts, go for walks, meet for coffee, exercise.... truly enjoy the rest of my life!!
For the past 10 yrs I have lived in the wrong place and life has been miserable. I am moving to start a new beginning, a new life for me!
I retired from the military and stayed local. There is nothing here. This area is for people who have held a bond since birth. I was raised a military brat and then served until my retirement 31dec12.

If you know of a great place for me to move to please let me know. I will be selling my house by summer. I’m looking around the Ft Hood area ... north~east of it.

Recommendations welcome..... and appreciated

I don't know as you'll get much help with this on the Collecting and Antiques forum.

You might try the Texas forum.

Temple, TX, might be a fit for you. Just 45 minutes from Ft. Hood, has a VA, and a large hospital (Scott & White).

Big retirement community in and around New Braunfels and getting bigger. All the bases in San Antonio are less than an hour away, with a huge VA system. You could move into lots of smaller towns on the outskirts of San Antonio and still be smack in the middle of all kinds of activities and central transportation points (international airport and Amtrak).

Keep in mind that Texans' idea of close proximity is not quite the same as smaller states. We think nothing of driving three hours to a festival and another three hours home. We also give distances in hours driving, not in miles.

Wherever you dock, best of luck.

You need things to do, cafes to hang around, restaurants to eat, shops to browse, sporting events to cheer, buses to take to other cities, plays/movies to watch and so on. If you went to peaceful and quite, boring days would make you age faster. Kids and grandkids also need things to do when they visit or visits won’t happen often.

You also need good hospitals, choice of doctors offices, 24-hr pharmacies, major airport, Uber service, food delivery and 24 hr amazon delivery.

New Braunfels is not in North Texas.the thread title from the OP mentions Northern Texas.

You really don’t want to live around Fort Hood. Killeen and the surrounding area is a “GI Town” meaning everything there caters to soldiers. There are lots of used car lots, tattoo places and pawn shops, and for a town that size, the crime rate is higher than it should be due to the transient population. There are zero career opportunities (unless you want to work in healthcare, wait tables, or work retail) in the area. You also won’t find a lot of peers there; people tend to GTFO once they get out of the military and not stick around Central Texas.
