Hate to bring up an old thread but I finally went to New Zion Missionary Baptist Church BBQ in Huntsville last Friday. A great experience, I had the 2 meat plate, with brisket and pork ribs, I like the brisket better, the ribs had a little too much fat in them for me, but the meat was good. Potato salad was good, beans were typical. It was fun to watch the employees doing the work, cause the kitchen area is open to the eating area. It is almost like being in an old country home. Definitly nothing fancy but that adds to the place. It was hard to know where to park, so I parked at the church and found out that is where you are suppose to park.
I'd definately go again when in the area.

we tried Hard Eight in coppell area off Sandy Lake road before Christmas--
it was good--AND nicely decorated in kind up upscale Western look
but brisquet was tender, sauce was good, and they had lots of options--two kinds of ribs, chicken, grilled poppers---grill is outside the main eating area--you walk through it--pick out your choices by piece or pound and walk inside to get the others sides like potatoe salad...BIG pots of beans, one with jalapenos cook in one of the corners...
it was actually about the nicest/best BBQ place I have seen--because normally I agree that upscale and good don't equate...
those in DFW area should try it...it is not that convenient for us but it is not too far off 121/Grapevine Mills area so it is pretty easy to find...

Okay, I'm bringing up this old thread again, but dang it, its about BBQ!
On the way back to the DFW area from business in Midland, I stop at an out of the way place, about 1/2 way between Colorado City and Snyder. Now if you look at a Texas map you will see there is not much there except a small spot on the road for Dunn TX. If you go a little farther north from Dunn, and take a left on FM 1606 you'll find the home to some of the best BBQ that I have tasted, better than anything I have tried in the Dallas/Plano area. Its called Dunn Right BBQ. Great ribs. The owner has been in the BBQ competition for several years. They are open on Thursday through Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
If you are in the neighborhood, and have the time, I recommend it.

For any of you that find yourself in Manhattan NYC, check out Wildwood Barbeque just a couple of blocks east of Union Square on Park Ave South. They have a website. I can vouch for the smoked brisket. The sides aren't brilliant, but for a somewhat untraditional, well-flavoured and healthy side I like the stewed greens with bits of bacon (can't recall which type of green at the moment, kale maybe). The brisket is at least as good as the County Line, though I'm sure a lot of folks posting here think the County Line is too sissified. I always found them better than Salt Lick or the barbeque places in Taylor or Lufkin.

doctorjef, is this is a new place? My son lived in NYC (including in Manhattan for a while) for some years, up until a couple of years ago, and he is nothing if not all about the 'que, and he's remarkably good at finding BBQ or Mexican food in unlikely places, and the two things he could not find up there during his years living there were good BBQ (except at the annual festival when they brought up folks from Central Texas) or ANY breakfast tacos. Then, just before he moved back, the BBQ place opened up that apparently got it all right (including sending their pit boss to Central Texas to intern for a year before they opened) - but it wasn't that one. If I can tell him about a place that was there when he was there that had real honest to goodness Texas BBQ that he missed, it'll be points for me! (Of course, if he tried it and found it wanting, that'll be another thing, but I'm willing to risk it. )

I think it's pretty new. I'd been there once in April, I think, though it could have been before that. Then I was just up in Manhattan right before Labor Day and went there again -- my partner and I enjoyed it so much this time that we went twice in two days.
A place I really like in Manhattan for interior of Mexico Mexican food is Pampano, in Midtown East -- about 49th and 3rd Ave. They specialise in Mexican seafood but have all kinds of stuff. It's a beautiful place too.

The best I've had in the last year or so has got to be Up In Smoke BBQ. They were in Hillsboro, but recently moved into a bigger building in Abbott right on I-35. Cyclone is probably the best I've ever had.

I went to Up In Smoke last year, at the Hillsboro location. I didn't care for it too much at that visit, but I might try it again.
