I live in Texas, and offered an opinion based on living there. For someone who likes to talk about being mature, you're the one who started insulting me because I said something negative.

And you know all about me, but I know nothing about you? Right. Again, I've done nothing but offer an opinion on the state I live in to someone who is thinking about moving here. All you've done is see fit to insult me for that opinion.

I could write a doctoral dissertation on why Texas sucks, but I don't feel the need to. But then you would tell me that you're father-in-law disagrees, and that proves your point.

What I find so amusing is that you, who keep accusing me of being immature and having something wrong psychologically, are the one so inflamed by a negative opinion that you insult me and act as if I had said it is an undeniable fact that Texas sucks. The depths of your idiocy is truly astounding. If I am such a miserable person, then explain why I have a successful job that I enjoy very much, a beautiful house in a pretty nice area, a loving wife...I could go on, but there really is no point. Don't think you know a damn thing about me because of a few lines on a message board.

I've looked on other sections of this forum, and when someone posts something negative about the place they live in, instead of personal attacks and insults, they are asked why, to explain further. Idiots like you epitomize what is wrong with this state, and why I am looking forward to getting out. I am sure there will be such self-centered insecure *******s as you everywhere, but at least I'll be somewhere I enjoy living when I have to deal with them.

That was a serious question, meant to find out more about you and, perhaps, WHY you feel the way you do so strongly. And, of course, if there was any specific place that you'd lived that you didn't dislike, to further the discussion.

Northeast. Spent considerable time in Maine. Probably my favorite place on Earth. I will probably relocate to either Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont, and be overjoyed to be there.

Haven't been to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are lovely places. I've been to both (I have Morgan Horses and just had to go to The Source). The sight of frozen rivers with trucks on them, and then the same river rushing during spring thaw, was, I'll admit, mind boggling.

That being said, if that's what you love, and anything other than that is anaethema to you, I can see why you wouldn't like many parts of Texas, and why heat might be an issue (though I would, and did, find the cold up there as unwelcoming as you seem to find the heat here). Though I doubt you've lived in all of them - I've been here almost 60 years and moved around a fair bit and I haven't accomplished that. But it doesn't quite explain your vehement hatred - where exactly in Texas are you?

D/FW now. Lived in East Texas for a time, and spent some time in South Texas.

NO Bellestare you are racist sorry.

I have lived in different parts of South Texas- the last 9 years in Rockport. Rockport is 80% Anglo but its 100% English speaking as the hispanic population has been here generations. In Denton there is a much higher percentage of non-English speakers. I practiced law in both areas and because I took the time to learn Spanish, thought it would serve me well here.

Corpus is about 50% Hispanic but 90% Speak English.

Only in certain parts of the Rio Grande Valley do you run into almost total Spanish- although even there most can speak Engiish if they want to. I served a term as District Attorney in the valley, but I didn't really like the area.

Rockport on the other hand is super. Good schools, friendly people and no traffic. Rockport gets people from all over -because of the boating, fishing, yachting and construction. The only negative is that because of this there are more men than women- especially in the 45-55 group but its still a great place. Its growing and so easy to make money.

I always found this new fad of: "I was born in Texas but Texas just sucks SO bad..Everyone here is just SOO beneath me..They're all backward, hicks, redneck, unrefined, horse-people --- while Im just SOO upscale and polished, and Ive even seen a SKYSCRAPER BEFORE!! wow..Im practically a Northeasterner" outlook so hilarious...

Not only is it self defeating but what people dont realize is that: It doesnt matter whether you move to frickin Maine or Mars...You will always be a native Texan..The residents of wherever else you move will still only know you as one of those "hick, redneck, unrefined, soul-less, horse people..who just happened to move their miserable butt into my region, and is trying his darndest shed part of himself to fit in here."...lol

I mean inevitably: if you cant be the least bit proud of where you're from (or at bare minimum resist being ashamed and disgusted at the fact that you hail from that place), whereever you go you're still just going to be some pathetic, cheap imitation of whoever is actually native to that place; and if you're really of the mindset that "whew thank goodness I got away from those lowly pickup driving, hicks", then most likely you wont even know it. lol...

If I could, I would pack up right now. However, the only redeeming quality I've found in Texas is cheap real estate, and until the market picks back up, selling my house would not net enough to both put a down payment on a new house and keep a good chunk in the bank to live off of.

So you're stuck with me for at least a couple years.

Some people just like to complain ;no matter what their circumstances. Most are people who really don't do anyhting about their situation other than that. There are lots of cool places that have cheap property many even cheaper. I am surprised that you waited until the markets dropped so much in your area.
