Abilene: WEHT "Mister G's Burgers" ??? (appointed, closing)

I lived in Abilene during the late 70's - late 80's, and I remember that the local burger chain "Mister G's" seemed to be sprouting up all over the place.

I no longer live in Abilene, but recently did some Internet searches, and I can't find anything anywhere that suggests that Mister G's ever even existed. Can someone who lived (lives) in Abilene give a history of where they went and what happened to them? As I remember, they were some fairly tasty burgers.

I haven't lived here long and have never heard of "Mister G's" but there's a local burger "chain" called "Rick and Carolyn's" with several places around town. Maybe they bought out Mister G's or something? I haven't eaten there but their burgers are highly rated in the "Best of Abilene" poll this year.

You may want to ask the Abilene Reporter News, columnist Doug Williamson. He has a regular column "Ask Doug." He answers a lot of these types of questions in the paper. I have been visiting the area for 7-8 years and don't recall them.

I lived in Abilene from '70 to about '82. I looooved Mr. G's Burgers and ate them way more often than is advisable.

I've lived in Abilene for about 12 years. Mr G's had about 6 locations in town until maybe 1998 or so. Then they all closed. Some have been bulldozed, others converted into new restaurants. But they are all gone.

I used to love Mr. G's. My grandparents live in Abilene and we used to always go there when I was little.

There actually was a single Mr. G's burgers left until 2001 on Judge Ely Blvd. They are now a comet cleaners =( so sad! I loved Mr. G's!! (Rick and Caroline's is a different chain and not near as good)

We used to eat Mr. G's as our Friday night treat when I was growing up in Abilene. I recall it was like Whataburger . . . but muuuch better.

Oh yeah, Mr. G's burgers were the best! I grew up here in Abilene and ate many of those old fashioned burgers for many years. They had great french fries too. I used to get a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for under 3 bucks back in the 80's/early 90's. I moved out of town for a few years and then came back in the middle 90's and I was very disappointed. Apparently some new owners had bought them out and the quality went down hill fast after that. Not long after that they were closing them down one by one. It was really a shame that such a great burger place had turned into a lousy one. I have no doubt that's why they went out of business. I realy miss the old Mr. G's, they made some of the best burgers and fries I've ever eaten.
