Default Let's build one...

Fixin' to hit the sack, y'all...but meanwhile just thought we could all together make the perfect Texas "Dagwood" (for those of us old enough to remember the reference!) sandwich!

So let's build 'er up....

Start with two HUGE slices of Texas toast....

Go from there, my fellow Texans...! What would you add to the foundation?

See you all in the morning!

Sandwiches I had as a kid. Hmmm....My dad used to make us weird ones. I didn't really find it yukky at the time but now I do, and that was beef tongue. He'd use either that or just ham or bologna and stack it up with lettuce and tomatoes and mayo. I liked grilled cheese and sloppy joes the best. I'd never, ever had a butter sandwich at my own house but for some reason, when I was in grade school I either stayed at my best friends house for a few weeks or had to spend the night over there for a few weeks and her mom had to make our lunch. Her mom was my babysitter before we became friends, btw. But anyway, I guess during this particular time she was either having a hard time with money or was being extra thrifty or something because she'd pack us butter sandwiches every day. Ya'll are lucky you got tomatoes on yours I remember complaining to my mom once that I didn't like it, and she got upset with me and told me to be grateful I had anything and that I should appreciate the fact that she shared with me what little she had. She had me look at it like I was just eating 2 pieces of buttered bread stuck together. I actually grew fond of them after a few days. I used to also like the google peanut butter with the jelly in it. I haven't ever gotten that for my daughter, but I ought to try it for her once. Let's see, I've got grilled cheese, peanut butter/jelly, butter, tongue or ham and bologna and sloppy joe. In high school a friend of mine got me hooked on fried bologna. When we'd visit my grandparents, they just made sandwiches with whatever left over meat they had, plus lots of mayo. I used to think that was weird when I was a kid, because I was used to lunch meat but it sort of grew on me. Oops just remembered another one. It was one of my moms favorites and she made these and put them in my lunchbox almost every day in Kindergarden and 1st grade, and that was olive loaf.

PB&J or grilled cheese. Another favorite that's been mentioned already was fried bologna. Gee, I haven't had that in many years. I used to LOVE that!
