Was checking the news at the Chronicle and found a link to these old photos around and about Texas, from the 1920's era. Mostly having to do with oil exploration but many photos of things Texas.

The Alamo
The Galvez
SA Sunken Gardens
Galveston Seawall

Thanks for that- fascinating.

I remember being shown round West Columbia by a resident who is descended from Stephen Austin.

We went to a museum showing how it was back in Ima Hogg's days- just a vast array of drilling rigs.

There's still the occasional nodding donkey to be seen.

Didn't I hear that at the start of World War II something like half the world's oil was coming out of Texas?

How neat! My great grandfather was a wildcatter from KY who came to Texas--Big Spring, actually, in 1921 so those pics are really cool to see. He could have been in or near any one of those pics from B.S. (at least, it's nice to think so)! Thank you for posting!
