I want to take the family to S. Padre next week, have never been and was wondering what hotel is best for kids ages 2-6. I like to comb the beach, and actually look through seaweed for critter life! Any suggestions for a hotel for us?

Thanks

First, in case you didn't realize, South Padre is not really very close to Corpus Christi. It's about 3 hours south of here. If you're coming to our end of Padre Island, it depends on what kind of place you want--a regular hotel, a condo, or a "tourist court" type of place.

Whether you're going to SPI or Port Aransas, I recommend that you go and do a search on Trip Advisor dot com. Places that sit right on the beach will be more expensive than those that sit farther back or on the bay, but it you plan to spend most of your time at the beach it may be worth it. On SPI it can be hard to find parking close, which might be a problem with little kids. Although I'm not sure that's true this time of year.

I've also had great luck with VRBO dot com. It's "vacation rentals by owner" and you can often get a much bigger place for the same price as a hotel room.

Wherever you go, have fun. It's a nice time of year to go to the beach.

Default Thank you...

Thank you Marlow. Yes, I did realize S. Padre is further south, but CC was the closest city that I could post in as CD does not list smaller cities.

VRBO is great indeed; we use it frequently when traveling through Europe; my wife is from Barcelona, so we visit ofen and travel to other European cities. I think I used VRBO for the wine country in California as well.

Again, thanks!

Since it's outside the CC area, this thread is not on topic in the CC forum, so please follow the discussion to the Texas state forum.

Back to the topic... Last time I took my family to South Padre, we got a good deal on a room by naming our own price through Priceline. For 5 people, you might need two rooms. Just visit BiddingForTravel.com and betterbidding.com for advice on how low to bid.
