I think its time to stage an intervention for matt.....We need to help our fellow forumer
To the left you have the only skyscraper west of the Mississippi constructed during the Great Depression, People's Petroleum. To the right you have The Plaza aka "mini" Sears Tower which stands at a commanding 300' tall & is outlined at night time in over 1,000 linear feet of red neon like lights which can be seen for miles around the city. The one next to it is about to get the lighting treatment with color changing flood lights at the base & crown. It should be ready just in time for the holidays.

Oh my god, I had no idea Tyler was so impressive. I can see why you hate Dallas so. How can we ever compare to something like that? Giggle, giggle.

I think a better idea would be to just stop responding to him at all. Maybe he will scoot back on over to the Tyler forum where he can actually, maybe, provide some factual data and statements. Since he does live there and all.

I think he meant it was the only "skyscraper" west of the Mississippi built next to a strip club during the Great Depression.
I think a better idea would be to just stop responding to him at all. Maybe he will scoot back on over to the Tyler forum where he can actually, maybe, provide some factual data and statements. Since he does live there and all.
This is very insightful. He gets a great deal of reinforcement when people respond to his posts even in a negative way. The very best way to stop him is to stop responding to him.

I'll admit I was off when I said the only skyscraper.
"The People’s Petroleum Building is the most prominent, historic landmark in Downtown Tyler. Built in 1932 by one of Tyler’s most influential businessmen, Samuel A. Lindsey, the 15-story building is located at the west end of the downtown square. At the time, it was the tallest high-rise building in East Texas and one of the largest construction projects west of the Mississippi."
"Designed by renowned Houston architect, Alfred Charles Finn, and constructed by Tyler contractors, Campbell & White, the building features a restrained Art Deco style, with stepped massing and motifs inspired by Classical Revival designs"
The spire, which was actually a metal oil well casing at the top lit up at night time in multi color neon lights (red, pink, & green to represent Tyler as the Rose Capital of The World) & rotated clockwise & counter clockwise at the same time almost like a drill. It was added in the 1950's & taken off in 1980 when the taller bank building next to it went up.
