this is a list i just started....mind you, i am a newcomer here (North Texan)...so i am just learning...feel free to correct/add to the list (i will add as i think of more)!

You know you're in South Texas when........

Instead of saying "I'm going to Walmart", you say, "I'm going to Wally Martinez"

You know the difference between carne guisada and carne asada

You call males (whether they are little boys or grown men) "Pappy" and females "Mama" (whether or not they are your mother)

"Illegals" are everywhere, green and white SUV US Border Patrol vehicles are spotted more than any other law enforcement agency, and you know that a person being referred to as a "TONC" is an illegal who is "Traveling Outside of Native Country" (usually Honduras, Guatemala)

If you are a caucasian, you are commonly referred to as an "Anglo"

You see "jalisco taquerias" everywhere

You know not to order a "breakfast taco", but a "breakfast burrito"

You see javelina on your morning walk, and the most common roadkill spotted is javelina

Wink My Inference

So...what you're saying is, there's a large hispanic population and influence in Southern Texas? (I never would have guessed!)

well, that wasn't my intention...or point of my post...but of course there is a large hispanic population and influence in South Texas-we are bordering Mexico here! and please, let's not get into looking at this thread from a racist viewpoint-that is not my intention, simply a little "vignette" on life in South Texas, nothing more, nothing less........

hmmm, I prefer Juevos Rancheros for breakfast myself...

I am more used to the Gringo or Gringa titles

OH and be careful, if you drive down over the boarder of even in some cases close to the boarder, leave your nice bright shiney SUV at home locked up...or it could be stolen and be the new police vehicle in some little town in Mexico...

I got a kick out of the fact that boarder patrol drives Ford SUVs...I'm a FORD girl...
