We're looking at moving for retirement, how is Navasota? Housing, cost of living, taxes, services, ambience, etc?

I personally don't know a lot about the area, but used to spend a lot of time in Tomball. I love that the whole area has big trees and it looks really green. The lady I knew in Tomball grew up in Navasota and she always said that the people there are very neighborly. If someone needs help there is always a group around to lend a hand.

My grandpa grew up there and many of his friends from school never left. I've been there numerous times and I thought it was pretty nice. It's not large at all but there's a decent amount of stuff there and you would only be half an hour from College Station/Bryan (where I'll be next year) and not far from Houston. Overall it seems peaceful and safe. Sorry I can't help you with anything else.

You're joking, right? There's not a lot to do there and not that much to do in B/CS.

That said, it'd probably be good for retirement but have you considered the Texas Hill Country?

In researching it, the housing market isn't that cheap compared to surrounding aread, such as B/CS. I really don't wnat to live somewhere it takes a day trip to get a quart of milk!

By stuff I meant restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores. Not a lot to do but they are retiring.

OP, the population was around 7000 in 2000 and probably the same now so don't worry about having to drive hours for groceries.

If you've been to Katy, Tx lately you'll know that Navasota is just about a bedroom community to it now. Houston's grown out quite a bit that way.
