In-n-out is even worse. Totally don't understand what the fuss is about.

A burger is never "gourmet". If the ingredients are that great, I can only say it is such a pity to put them between two pieces of bread buns.

I don't understand the aversion to elevating a simple food to a higher level? There are countless world class classically trained chef's who have started dabbling in burgers and as a treat why not enjoy them? And we are not talking about a generic store bought bun either, it is house made freshly baked bread. Is bread now not a special type of food? Quite a few cultures would disagree with you there.

There is room for both cheap and expensive burgers, there is no reason that we can't enjoy both.

For reference this is how my favorite burger in Boston is made and its amazing. Its made at the restaurant of a James Beard award winning chef.

^^I've been to Cragie on Main but not for the Burger. Try the Neptune Burger at Neptune Oyster House if you get a chance. In TO, I tried Marben and enjoyed it but still like Burger Priest the best. The guy who started BP basically learned his trade from working in several NY burger joints.

As for Burgers, there's nothing wrong with loving them. I do - be it from a hole-in-the-wall, pub or a more fancy version. It's a North American staple.

Try and get to Craigie for the burger, its great. Especially if you have someone to share with one of my favorite things is sitting at the bar there, ordering the burger, crispy pig tails and bone marrow. Plus the cocktails are awesome.

Neptune's burger is fantastic (Topped with fried oysters). But I have only had it once, its so tough to go there and not get one of the seafood entrees or the warm butter lobster roll.

Burger Priest is on my list for a place to try next visit. I have heard it is great.

Yeah, I never been to Shake Shack, but I hear it gets packed. Seems like a good spot, but I don't like waiting in line and then struggling to find a seat just to eat a burger. Maybe I'll try it next time I'm in NYC if I'm in the area.

They still taste good to me. lol.
But I totally hear you.
