Considering this as an alternative to 2012/2013 Forester due to higher seating capacity. The one time I rented a Highlander, I could still feel the shock of potholes just like I was driving a sedan. Does anyone have a different experience?
No. Mine has 67 000 miles, 2012, and it's still bumpy - on chitty roads. It's super comfy on good tarmac though.
Should you have actual potholes, you are destined to go for large American. like Tahoe or Denali. Good luck with that though.
Latest Consumer report placed Highlander at the top as the best midsize SUV. That counts.
I think that if you complain about potholes in a Highlander, you will complain about them in anything other than a big Caddy, Denali, Suburban, etc.
In general I found that vintage Highlander to be extremely well mannered, smooth, and quiet on the road, and I never heard any complaints about the ride.
