2 Single Ladies Vacationing in San Juan - Tips? (Food, nightlife, etc.) (rentals, Cuba)

I also posted this in the PR forum, but realized this may be a better spot.
Within the next couple of weeks my friend and I will be vacationing in San Juan, PR. We will be staying at the La Concha Renaissance Resort on Ashford Ave... arriving on a Wednesday afternoon - leaving Sunday morning.
We are both single, young (late 20's) professional black females and we are going simply to relax, see a new city, and have fun. We aren't really into museums or visiting historic sites - but we are into trying delicious authentic food and enjoying FUN nightlife! Our idea of 'fun nightlife' is getting all dolled up to go dancing, sip cute fruity drinks, and see/meet cute people, etc.
We don't want to spend a TON of money (no $100 lunches), but we understand that we need to have $$ for food, cabs, beach item rentals, nightlife admission, etc.
Can anyone please advise of some places/things to do? We are really into Carribean food (I LOVE Cuban food especially)... and usually prefer eating at more casual local spots over 'high end' (read: stuffy) restaurants.
Also - my friend knows VERY little Spanish ('Hola' is about it); but I have been studying Spanish for a while now and I'm pretty conversational... just an FYI in case that matters in the recommendations.
