This idea just came to me a little bit earlier today so havn't done much research but have some vacation time I need to use soon so was thinking about taking a 3-4 day roadtrip.

Rt 66 was the first thing that came to mind. Leaving from Chicago. Obviously this depends on how much I want to stop and stuff but was wondering if anyon had any suggestions for how far I can get in 3-4 days?

Also looking for any other advice people can offer. I was thinking Oklahoma would be as far as I could go and get out and still have some time to see thing but basically more or less just planning on driving and stopping if I see something interesting.

3 to 4 days driving West or do you also have to squeeze in your return trip into that amount of time? You'd probably make it to Gallup or Flagstaff maybe even to Winona, Kingman or Barstow, if you push it maybe even to San Barnardiiiino!

It also depends on how long a day you want to have. Google maps has Chicago, IL to Miami, OK as 605 miles (10 hrs 12 minutes) via Rts. I-55 and I-44. It'd be more miles using Rt. 66.

Assuming you also need to drive back within the 3-4 days, you might not even get as far as Oklahoma. I suggest you just take off, stop when you decide to, and go as far as you can while leaving enough time to get back home.

Here's a pretty good site for Route 66: Route 66 - Traveling the Mother Road

Just be careful around Radiator Springs. I hear if they catch you speeding, you'll have to do road work. Then you'll never make the race in time.

Route 66 is nearly 2500 miles long. Driving 10 hours per day at 70 mph is going to take you about 4 days with just enough time for potty breaks and motel time. And most of 66 is off the main highway now and the speed limits are lower. You're not going to see much at that pace.
