Only in your checked luggage are scissors allowed. I had a small pair of embroidery scissors, perhaps two inches long, and they were consfiscated. I still miss having those scissors in my purse because they were so handy.

I got my carry-on flagged for small scissors that my wife had put in my bag.

It sucked man because I didn't know they were in there and we made it thru security stateside, but in a hurry transferring at Heathrow on the fancy conveyor system in Terminal 5 I saw my bag get pushed into the reject lane and had to get interviewed briefly.

I would advise = no.

According to TSA's website you can carry on scissors as long as the blades are less than 4 inches long. However the website also states the TSO may prohibit any item he/she feels like. Something like scissors I would put in my checked luggage. If only taking a carry-on bag,then I guess you need to ask yourself...Are you feeling lucky today?

Round-tip scissors are perfectly acceptable on board. Even pointed-tipped scissors are fine if they were within a certain length. My small pair of pointed-tip scissors (definitely less than 4" blades) which I use to snip off yarn and my knitting needles have accompanied me on board of too many airplanes to count. Same with my tweezers (more than one). I never took my tweezers out of the toiletry bag for any trip.
