I literally haven't had a vacation since 2011 when I went to Disney World 4 days and 3 nights. I'm really burned out as I have just graduated from graduate school, moved into an apartment 40 minutes north of Boston, and just started a new full time job. Since I just started my new job 3 weeks ago, I obviously can't take off from work for a whole week. So I'm looking for some good deals for weekend getaways. It can be somewhere in New England or anywhere really. I'm really open to anything. I need something. I would also like something that's affordable.

Might be a bit too far for a weekend trip, but how about Bar Harbor? There's tons of things to do there: hiking, kayaking, cycling, whale watching, or just enjoying town.

I love the coast of Maine, there's many small towns that are worth visiting where you can relax and recharge your batteries. Some are not very far from Boston, and Bar Harbor itself is about 5 hours away.

I've driven there from Virginia, it's a very long drive for me, but I haven't found any place on the East coast where I feel so re-energized as Maine.

Great! I'm also looking at Wentworth by the Sea Spa and Resort in Seaport, NH. They've got some package deals that I really like.

I was going to suggest Bar Harbor as well, or what about Newport RI or even Cape Cod? I know they are all crowded this time of the year but they should still be nice get aways.

Congrats to you for graduating. I know, sometimes those years can seem like they go on forever and then all of a sudden it is over, you can say: I made it!! Our granddaughter has 1 more semester In nurse practitioners school. It has been a long road; she started with a bach in micro biology. Then wert back, got a BS in nursing, then decided on nurse practitioners school, and through all this, she got married, had 2 little girls and worked.

Wentworth is really nice and a great place for a weekend stay.

The season is just about over for Cape Cod, and prices drop very low while it's still very pleasant into October. SeaCrest in Falmouth would be an easy drive that is more than doable for a weekend. The Inn at Mills Falls in Meredith, NH is another place that I like. Some of the rooms have fireplaces and lake/mountain views. It's a nice, safe town without a ton of nightlife, but a great place to chill.

My geography sucks, but I'd be heading for Atlantic City if I were you. And by the way, I haven't had a "vacation" since 2009. LOL

I wouldn't recommend AC - long haul and frankly not worth it. We'd go on occasion from Philly when I was living there, but it was a cheap train ride and not a long haul. If it costs a decent amount of time or money to get there I'd just avoid it.

If you had a passport I'd recommend Montreal - although that may be too expensive at this time, but definitely keep it in mind going forward

I like the choices here and would also consider Providence, Burlington VT, Portland ME

You'd also be 3-4 hours from Saratoga Springs or Cooperstown in NY

A wide variety of options depending on if you want city, town, mountain, coast, etc

Lakes in NH !!! They have been some GREAT vacations. (and not crowded off season)
Vacation in the Lakes Region, USA

As a recent grad, You might be 'budget constrained' (some on this thread are NOT).
My Family and I have traveled for 25 yrs using private Guesthomes (several directory/ hospitality clubs that list a complete profile of host, so you can choose compatible and SAFE stays)
I have used a 'guest house' many times in Meredith,NH. $10/night for private house w/ tennis court, walking paths, dining area, boat dock with sail boat, dinghy, and lake kayak (all free)
You can get to many nice day hikes in the region as well.

The coast (ME, NH, MA) is usually too crowded and too far for relaxing, tho I do the coast also (ONLY mid-week).

Manchester, NH can be good for a weekend. Also the 'Historic Bridge tours' in the nearby region. (all VERY close to north Boston). I like to run out to Deerfield, MA and up to Windsor, VT as well.

SAVE UP NOW for a sweet trip to PEI and New Brunswick for the early fall. It is spectacular !!! and beyond and VERY friendly (relaxing).

Let me know if you need FRUGAL travel Ideas...
I often fly in and out of Manchester via SWA specials.
I LUV my 50 mpg VW's for road trips, (I buy VW Rabbits for $30 - $100)
You can also rent a Prius VERY cheap (if you are lucky and they let you CHOOSE your car without telling them you want a Prius.
I also rent Ford Focus or Yaris for ~$10/ day on Hotwire. They get 38-40 MPG. (I recently got one for $4.95/day including TAX!)
I eat via farm stands and grocery stores ~ $3-5/day
I rarely eat out, unless I get a superb recommendation and it is a unique venue (home cooking, not gourmet).
(I ALWAYS eat out while in affordable international locations with excellent food, currently living in Thailand and eating VERY WELL for $3.00_USD. Same in most of Asia,
While living in Spain, Switz, Italy, France; I ate as a local (bread and meat shops and fresh markets). ONE 'western' meal is about 10x the cost of a 'european meal'.

Hopefully your new career / edu will avail you to travel 'first-class'. I prefer to experience life (and travel) as a local, I find it satisfying and encouraging to others to travel CHEAP and donate your extra $$ to the needy locals.
YMMV.

That's a VERY long drive for a weekend. It would take 10 hours to fight your way down 95/90/84 (whichever works best for you) to the GSP and AC leaving on a Friday after work. Ditto the return.
